Humphrey, Mary (? - AUG 1927)

Funeral services for Mrs. Humphrey, whose death was chronicled in the Phonograph last week, were held Thursday morning, Sept. 1, 1927, at St. Nicheals Church, Mitchell, Wis. An impressive solemn high mass was said by Rev. July of Plymouth. He was assisted by Rev. Regan of Berlin and Rev. Sippel of Elkhart Lake. The body lay in state at the Phalen residence, her childhood home, from noon Tuesday until 10:00 o'clock Thursday, when her remains with a large funeral cortege proceeded to the cemetery.

The deceased, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Phalen, Civil War veteran and pioneer of Sheboygan Co., Wis., resided in Colby, Wis. wince the death of her husband, John Humphrey, who was well known in the county as a school teacher. Mrs. Mary Humphrey was well known and greatly respected and was also a school teacher in the Clark County for many years.

She is survived by one son, Edwin, age 12, who is the only Humphrey remaining of the Honorable Cad Humphrey family. Two sisters and two brothers also mourn her departure to the distant shores, namely: Mrs. Ben Butler, Parnell; Mrs. Wm. Murphy, Milwaukee; Richard Phalen, Milwaukee; Wm. Phalen, Malone.

The son, sisters and brothers and immediate relatives wish to tender thanks to St. Mary's court, C. O. F. and Women's Relief Corps of Colby, and Holy Name Court of Parnell for their beautiful floral offering and for their assistance.
