Young, Charlotte (29 JUN 1844 - 1 MAY 1924)

Mrs. Charlotte Shier Young was born in St. Julium, Germany, June 29, 1844 and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed Mordt May 1, 1924 at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 1 day. She had been blind for ten years and three years ago had a stroke, which caused helplessness and severe suffering for the remaining years of her life.

Charlotte Shier was married to Nick Young at St. Juluim, Germany, in 1869. Five children were born to them and they with their family came to this country in 1895, residing on a farm two miles east of Colby, Wis. They had lived there about two years when Mr. Young died. With her children Mrs. Young made her home on the farm until about thirteen years ago, when she came here to live with her daughter, Mrs. Ed Mordt.

She leaves to mourn her death three sons and two daughters, the sons, Julius, Jack and Louis all of Colby, and the daughters, Mrs. Ed Graham of Stevens Point, and Mrs. Ed Mordt of Abbotsford, also thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at the Evangelical Church at Colby Sunday afternoon and interment was made in the Colby Cemetery.

Among the relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Ed Graham, Mrs. J. F. Graham, Oscar and Callie Mordt of Stevens Point, Mrs. Albert Stroota of Dorchester, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Young and family and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Young of Colby.
