Wednesday, September 28, 1977, was Loraine (Boots) Fritz’s last day in the
Withee Post Office, where he has served as postmaster since 1971, when he took
the post upon the retirement of Dorothy Zasoba. Although Mr. Fritz’s last
official day is not until he end of October, he did have some vacation days
coming, so he was able to leave earlier, and he and his wife Mary on a trip to
Arizona.
A party was held in his home on his last day, at 9:00 a.m. for the office
employees. Mary had made a cake, so coffee and cake were served.
Mr. Fritz was a sub rural carrier on Route #2 in 1943 for Earl McCray, and later
became a full time clerk in the office. He and his family live on a farm north
and east of Owen in the Township of Hoard. He and his wife, Mary, have seven
children, Arden in Alaska, Ross in Oregon, Donna in De Forest, Mrs. Mary Anne
Klabon, Stevens Point, Lash in Madison, Ginger in Arizona and Micki, a senior at
Owen-Withee High.
In addition to more extensive traveling, Mr. Fritz will occupy his time with
gardening, deer hunting, and of course working in the sugar bush and making
maple syrup in the spring.
