Pickett, Eliza (24 SEP 1834 - 12 Jan 1920)

Mrs. Samuel H. Pickett, one of the oldest settlers of the town of Unity, Clark County, Wis., passed away at the home of her son, Frank M. Pickett in the town of Unity, Monday, Jan. 12, 1920, aged 85 years.

Eliza Multer was born in Ashland, Cattaraugus Co., N.Y., Sept. 24, 1834 and was married to Samuel H. Pickett Aug. 13, 1854. They came to Wisconsin a year later, settling at Hartford, Washington, Co., and lived there until the fall of 1871 when they moved to Clark County, Wis., residing here until the time of her death.

Mrs. Pickett was a woman of strong character, patient, loving and self-sacrificing. It is difficult to pay a fitting tribute to the memory of so noble woman, one whose everyday life was embellished by the most charming and lovable attributes of her six. A perfect lady at all times, under all circumstances, she seemed born to inspire the love and respect of all who were so fortunate as to be acquainted with her.

She leaves to mourn her death five children: Mrs. Helen Fuller of Unity, Frank M. of Unity, Samuel L. of Bayfield, Mrs. Mabel Hebert of Unity and Howard L of Riplinger. Two children, Mrs. Kate E. Holmes and Eli K. preceded her in death. She also leaves twenty-eight grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held from the residence last Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. A. F. Perkins officiating. Burial was made in the Spencer Cemetery.
