Throme, Theresa (6 JUL 1842 - 16 NOV 1919)

Mrs. John Throme, an old and respected resident of Colby, Wis., died suddenly shortly after 1 o'clock Sunday morning of hemorrhage of the lungs.

Her death came very unexpected, as she has seemingly been in fairly good health with the exception of a cough which developed about six months ago. She had been about as usual during the day Saturday and made no complaint of illness upon retiring. In the middle of the nigh her son and daughter were awakened when she was suddenly taken with a violent coughing spell. They reached her room just as the hemorrhage occurred and she fell into the arms of her son and passed away inside of a few minutes.

Mrs. Throme, whose maiden name was Theresa Smith, was born in Germany July 6, 1842, and at the age of 28 came to America and was married to John Throme in Baltimore, Md., two years later. About 36 years ago they came to Colby to live and Mr. Throme worked at his trade, that of a cabinet-maker and carpenter. After residing here about a year, Mr. Thome's mind became affected. His case being incurable he has since been obliged to remain as an inmate in the county asylum at Wausau.

Mrs. Throme has always been a hardworking woman and her heroic efforts in raising her children and keeping the home intact after having had to bear the loss of her husband through his misfortune will be remembered with reverence by her old friends and neighbors. She has gone to her just reward and the trials and tribulation of life on this earth are no more for her.

She was the mother of six children, two of who are still living, a son, Leonard, and a daughter, Barbara, both of this city, and the people of this community will deeply sympathize with them in the loss of their mother.

The funeral was held from St. Mary's Catholic Church in this city yesterday morning at 9 o'clock, services being read by Rev. H. Lachnit, and the remains place in the Colby St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
