Bio: Nelson, Johanna Christensen (b. 1839)

It is my understanding that Johanna Christensen Nelson was born in Norway in 1839. Johanna married Nels Nilsen who was born in Norway in 1828. When they emmigrated to Wisconsin in 1875 they changed their last name to Nelson. While in Norway they had 3 children, Julia Nelson born in 1862, Fredrick Nelson born in 1866, then Christian Adolph Nelson born in 1869 then alos had John Nelson born in 1872.

Once in Wisconsin they had Effie L Nelson who was born in 1877 died 1881. They also had William Nelson born 1878 and died 1946. They finally had Mary Nelson who was born in 1881. Christian Adolph Nelson is my great great grandfather. Christian married AnnaStacia Dunn in 1895 in York Center it says Wisconsin. Annastacia died July 1910 after giving birth to Earl. She died of child birth fever. Chris and Anna had 6 children. Christian and Anna moved all over they lived in North Dakota for a while where my grandpa Verne was born, they also lived in Cottage Grove Oregon where my aunt Clara was born and they lived in Montana. I do know AnnaStacia died in Montana but for some reason was buried in North Dakota. My grandpa had written a little book for the family about his childhood memories, it is in this book he said Johanna died in Feb of 1910 and where he mentioned that Nels was born in 1828 and died in 1888. Christian also remarried and he married a Jenni Nequist. Our family story says he put an ad in the paper for a new wife to help raise his children and her answer to it resulted in their marriage. Christian eventually moved to Roseville California which is where he died in 1940.

I have been told by family and by the book that my grandpa had written plus lds information that Johanna's maiden name was Christensen , but during this search I have recently obtained a copy of one of Christians brothers Williams marriage certificate and it says her maiden name was Larson. I've noticed on many cemetery indexes that her last name has always been listed Christensen as her children have passed away.

I haven't yet confirmed all of this information and would welcome any available help in doing so.

A genealogy volunteer, Edna Pieper Cherney, apparently lived near William's brother Fred, his wife and child. Through her, I discovered Fred's son used to be in a band. I have a website that I have been putting together on the Nelson line. I'd like you to add it to the list of sites with Clark County interests on your "More Resources" page.

Thanks again for the site! If it wasn't for your site I wouldn't have gotten to where I am now on the Nelson line.  Michele
