Potocnik, Jerry F. (17 May 1937 – 19 February 2022) With Flag

Jerry F. Potocnik, age 84, of rural Owen, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at his home.

Jerry was born on May 17, 1937, the son of Frank and Ethel (Moreau) Potocnik in Owen. He graduated from Owen High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-59 stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged with the rank of SP 5. Jerry was united in marriage to Gloria Brehm on July 13, 1963, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2019.

Jerry was a dairy farmer for many years in the Town of Holway and also worked as a stone mason. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting pool, making maple syrup, and growing giant pumpkins. He served on the Holway Town Board and the Stetsonville Volunteer Fire Department. Jerry especially looked forward to hosting the annual corn and pig roast on his farm every fall. Most importantly, he cherished his family.

Jerry is survived by his three children: Sue Potocnik of Madison, Tony Potocnik of Curtiss and Jenn (Kit) Canino of Sherwood; five grandchildren: Allison Potocnik, Samantha Potocnik, Abbi Potocnik, Frank Canino and Mira Canino. He is further survived by a sister, Donna (Bill) Skutak of Mosinee; two brothers: Dennis Potocnik of Medford and Arlin (Duila) of TN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria and a brother at birth, Frank.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. Rev. Nancy Amacher will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Holway with Military Honors provided by the Owen American Legion Post #123 and the Owen-Withee Vets Club.
