Schmidt, Oscar R. R. (10 Apr 1883 - 6 Feb 1915)

Mr. Oscar Schmidt, on of Loyal, Clark County, Wis. well known and highly esteemed citizens, answered the death call last Saturday, Feb. 6, 1915, at his home in this village at the age of 31 years, 9 months and 27 days. The cause of his death was consumption.

Oscar Rudolph Reinhold Schmidt was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottfried Schmidt and was born in the town of Beaver, Clark County April 10, 1883, where he spent the early part of his life. In 1905 he entered the Lutheran Seminary at St. Paul, Minn., where he studied for minister. In the eyar of 1909 he was taken sick with the much dreaded disease of consumption and was forced to drop his work at the Seminary. In October of the same year he left for Colorado, where he was married on April 23, 1912 to Miss Amelia Blemke of Veefkind, Clark County. Last November he and his bereaved wife returned from Colorado to our village, where he has since resided.

He leaves to mourn his early death his wife, his mother, four brothers, three sisters and his grandmother, besides many other relatives and friends. His father and six brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

The news of Mr. Schmidt's death, although not unexpected, occasioned much sorrow, especially to those of his neighbors and friends who had known him for many years and knew his true innate nobility. He suffered a great deal, but nevertheless was always cheerful. He possessed a happy, contented disposition, and had a pleasant greeting for everyone who he met in the daily walks of life. In his death is lost a kind and loving husband, son and brother, while the community has lost a man who will always be remembered for his steadfastness and perseverance in doing that which he thought to be right. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at one o'clock from the home and 1:30 o'clock from the Lutheran Church, the remains being laid to rest in what is known as the Lenling Cemetery, Rev. E. Kemena officiating.
