Obituary of Marian R. Syth

Marion Rose Syth, daughter of Arleigh and Ruby Syth, was born in the town of Eaton, two miles south of Greenwood, August 17, 1932. She came to bless their home for only six short years, but those six years will never be forgotten as Marion was an angelic type, very sweet and shy. She was never quarrelsome and always ready to do as she was told.

Her death came very suddenly as she was hit by a car driven by Undershariff Hertt Olson of Neillsville. She and her sister, shirley, did not have as early a start for school as their brother George, so when the pick-up truck, driven by William Butterbrodt came along, Marion was very anxious for a ride. The children at school had been playing marbles and Marion could hardly wait until she too could join them. Every other morning she would wait for her sister and go hand in hand across the cement. This morning she did not sait for Shirley nor hear her call to be "be careful". Then came the sickening thud Marion had been fatally injured. She was hit about 8:30 A.M. and was taken immediately to the Greenwood Clinic where both Dr. Olson and Dr. Overman worked over her bu to no avail. Her Guardian Angel called her at 10:30 A.M. March 29, 1939 having reached the age of 6 years, 7 months and 12 days. She was baptized at the M. E. Church where she also attended Sunday School. This was her first year at school where she was a very conscientius worker and had ideas above the average. She was very humorous and therefore had acquired many little friends.

She leaves to mourn her sudden going, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arleigh Syth, her sister Shirley Ann age 12, and her brother George age 9. Her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Eisentraut of Neillsville, a grandfather, Robert Systeh, a great grandmother, Mrs. Mary Ruege of Oshkosh, six aunts, six uncles, five cousins and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00 from the Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. C. R. Gaylord officiating. Mrs. Geo. Haeuser and Mrs. Harold Stabnow sang three lovely selections "The Old Rugged Cross" "Asleep in Jesus" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", accompanied by Miss Bishop at the piano. The body was laid to rest in the Greenwood cemetery.

The pallbearers were James Hawley, Robert Potter, Edward Gorman and Palmer Truax, from the upper grades. The honorary pallbearers were little boys from the first and second grades Gerald Ampe, Floyd Gorman, Wilber Swieso, and Howard Seibold. The little flower girls of Marion's class were Sue Ann Hawley, Beverly Carteron, Phlyiss Rondorf, Betty Wertz, Virgina Ampe and Beverly Ampe.
