Jenks, John K. (30 MAY 1873 - 8 Apr 1912)

John K. Jenks, born May 30, 1873, in Jefferson Co., Wis., died at Winona, Minn., on Monday, April 8, 1912.

His boyhood days were spent at the farm home near the village of Aztalan. After his high school education he took a business college course at Rockford, Ill., then after two or three short business experiences he entered the creamery business, which brought him here (Loyal, Clark County, Wis.) in the spring of 1899. While helping to build up a good business her he gained many friends and was married June 22, 1901, to Miss Lois Miles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Miles of this village.

In Feb. 1903 he moved to Winona to engage in the city milk business, which he followed until his last illness.

During his younger days he joined the Independent Order of Good Templars and clung ardently to the principals of the order throughout his life.

Though his business enterprises were marked by some disappointments he worked diligently and was hopeful of securing comforts for after years. He was always self-sacrificing and mindful of the comforts and pleasures of his relatives and friends, being especially kind-hearted and devoted to his family.

The deceased leaves a widow and one daughter, Mildred, eight years old, besides his father, mother, two brothers and one sister.

He was a member in good standing of the Brotherhood of American Yeomen and Equitable Fraternal Union. These organizations offered their help during his illness and assisted in the funeral services, a short service being held at the home in Winona on the morning of April 10th, led by Rev. Fritzie of that place and the final service at the Miles home in Loyal on April 11th at three o'clock p.m., rev. Kildow officiating. Interment was made at the Loyal M. E. Cemetery.
