Vogel, John (20 Jan 1877 - 19 Feb 1912)

Last Monday morning about ten o'clock while John Vogel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vogel, of this village (Loyal, Clark County, Wis.), was cutting cord wood for Fred Steurwald on the Charles Fulmer farm in company with Roy Meeks, he lost his life.

They had just finished cutting a tree and when it fell it struck a pole on the ground that laid across a log, which three it in the air to the other side where Mr. Vogel stood, striking him on top of the head. His neck was broken and his head crushed and he only lived a short time.

Mr. Meeks was very much shocked and surprised at the accident and secured the aid of Charles Fulmer to bring him to his home in the village.

Seldom has it been our duty to record so sudden a death. A gloom spread over the faces of his many friends when it was whispered from one to the other that "John" was dead.

Besides a devoted wife he leaves two sons, a father and mother and several brothers and sisters.

The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church this morning at ten o'clock and the remains buried in the Dodgeville Cemetery.
