           Borden, Ebenezer

(20 NOV 1827 - 27 Dec 1910)

Ebenezer Borden died on Tuesday morning, Dec. 27, 1910, at the age of eighty-three years.

The deceased came to Wisconsin in the year 1849, and has during all the time since witnessed many wonderful changes in this part of the state as it was a wilderness when he arrived. He was born on Nov. 20, 1827, and was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Hallock on Oct. 28, 1857. Eleven Children were born of this union: William N., Wyatt B., Ruth A., Herbert G., Norman A., Marion L., Myra L. Edna M., Watson J., and deceased Lillian D. and Florence K.

When he first came to Wisconsin he spent a few months at Madison and then went to the Wisconsin River and engaged in logging for a season; and the two years following he was employed on a farm in Dodge County, Wis., and at the end of that time he returned to Vermont; but two years later returned to Dodge County, where he remained two years; his next place of residence was in Jackson County, where he farmed for a few years. In 1861 he moved to the farm on the edge of the village limits, where he made his home up to the time of his death.

In 1864, when there was still a call for men to go to the aid of the Union, he abandoned his pursuits at home and enlisted as a private in Co. I., Third Wis. Volunteer Infantry, and served about eleven months. At the close of the war he was honorably discharged at Washington.

The deceased was a man of excellent habits and fine moral character. He was invariably a good neighbor and there was no happier family circle in the land than his. When he died, full of years, the grief that was felt over the close of his long career was widespread and sincere.

The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church on Monday morning at ten o'clock and the remains interred in the M. E. Cemetery.
