Beaver, Joseph (1882 - 8 Dec 1907)

On last Thursday evening a dispatch was received by John Beaver of the town of Loyal, Clark County, Wis. from Watertown, Wis., stating that his son Joseph was in a serious condition at Watertown, owing to an accident which occurred the day previous. Mr. Beaver left on Friday morning and upon being informed of the serious condition of his son, upon his arrival, immediately sent for his wife who left on Saturday morning. He was conscious to the last and when his mother was shown to his room at the Windsor Hotel greeted her with, "Hello Ma."

It seems that he was helping to unload a car of soft coal when his foot slipped on one of the large pieces and he fell out of the car door to the ground on his back and neck, resulting in a fracture of one of the bones in his neck.

Everything that medical skill could do was done in an effort to save the life of the young man. Friday afternoon an operation was performed, the same being considered necessary to spare his life, his body having becoming paralyzed below the shoulders. A portion of the fractured vertebra was removed and the parts sewed together. The sufferer appeared relieved, but on Saturday afternoon there was a change for the worse and he gradually failed until the end came at two o'clock on Sunday morning.

His death has brought the bitter cup of sorrow to the lips of his relatives and many friends. At all times and under all circumstances he walked in the well beaten path of righteousness. His was the soul of honor, and his friends and friendships were sacred to him. He was well liked by all his acquaintances, who were shocked to learn of his sudden death. He was born in this vicinity and at the time of his death was twenty-five years of age.

The deceased is survived by father, mother, eleven brothers and four sisters.

The remains were brought here for burial on Monday and the funeral services held on Wednesday morning at ten o'clock at the Catholic Church in this village.
