JOSEPH J. ZAWADZKI

Joseph Zawadski, of Withee, Wisconsin, the son of Walter and Joanne Zawadski, was born May 30, 1935 in the family farm house which is still operated by his father. His mother a very devoted Catholic and extremely loyal to St. Hedwig's Parish during her life passed away in 1966. May God reward her for raising a God fearing family of children who succeeded in their endeavors.

Joseph still remains single. He attended Poppe School, Withee High School where he received his Diploma in General Studies in 1949. He received his Bachelors Degree from Northland College in 1957 graduating with a "Summa cum Laude" in Chemistry, Physics and mathematics. From 1960 to 1962 he attended Loyala \University of Chicago where he received his Masters and Doctors Degree specializing in Organic Chemistry. He attended the University of Chicago for a Post-Ph.D Degree in Organic Chemistry to complete his studies in 1964.

Educational Honors included. Graduation Valedictorian from Withee High School; Graduated Summa cum Laude, rank 1 in the class from Northland College; was National Science Foundation Cooperative Graduate Fellow, 1 959-62; Member of the American Chemical Society of Sigma'XI.

His college activities at Northland College, included the following: Jr. member of A. C. S.; Theta Pi Fraternity, 1, 2, 3, 4 years; secretary second and fourth year; Newman Club Member thru four years of College; Secretary for 2 years, and President in his third and fourth years; Student Senate for three years, vice-president and class treasurer his third year. due to financial difficulties. Mr. Zawadzik worked his way through college as a student foreman of the Northland Print Shop.

His Master's Thesis was the "Mercuration and Brornination of Sodium Tetraphenylboron", Harvey W. Posvic, Ph.D. His Doctor's Thesis was "A Study of the (I Phenyleycloal- kyl) Acetaldehyde Decarbonation, " James W. Wilt, Ph.D. At present Joseph holds the position of Senior Research Chemist for G. D. Searle and Company since 1 964. He was chosen as the Director of the Omega Fund Inc. in January of 1967. It is a tribute to the parents. Besides Joseph, Lawrence is a priest, David a Lieutenant in the United State Coast Guard, Gabryel in the Peace Corps of the United States, and Dorothy attending Wisconsin State in Wausau to become a teacher.
