Schroeder, Peter (4 NOV 1843 - 10 Apr 1910)

Peter Schroeder died at his home in this village (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) on Sunday, April 10, 1910, of heart disease and other complications, after a week's severe illness. Mr. Schroeder was born at Bram, Prussia Nov. 4, 1843, and came to America with his parents in 1849. The family first located at Blooming Grove, Dane Co., Wis., remaining there two years; also resided two years at Blue Mounds, Wis. and two years at Waterloo, Iowa, then moved to a farm near Blue Earth City, Minn. Here Mr. Schroeder resided until he came to Thorp in 1880. During the Civil War he served his country faithfully as a soldier as a member of Co. F. 5th Minnesota Regiment, re-enlisting after his first discharge, in Co. H. 2nd Minnesota Cavalry. His brother William, died in Andersonville prison and Huber, another brother, also a Civil War veteran, died at St. Paul March 22, 1908. His mother died in 1861 and his father in 1879. Mrs. Schroeder was married on Oct. 30, 1866, to Mary DuCate, who died in this village Oct. 21, 1894. His father having married again after his mother's death, he leaves two half sisters, Miss Louisa Schroeder of St. Paul, the other resident of Spokane, Wash. The funeral took place on Tuesday, the officers of the Forest Queen Lodge No. 321, I. O. O. F., of which he was an old member, conducting the services.
