Jensen, Eddie (12 APR 1919 - 7 Mar 2003)

Eddie Jensen, 83, Humbird, died on Friday, March 7, 2003, at his home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, March 10, at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. The Rev. Joel Krueger officiated. Music was provided by Jodi Rueth, organist. Military honors were provided by the Humbird Melcher-Matti American Legion Post #320. Burial was in the York Baptist Cemetery, Thompson, Ill. Pallbearers were members of the Humbird American Legion.

Eddie Carl Jensen was born on April 12, 1919, in the town of Waterford, Iowa, to Carl and Anna (nee Penningroth) Jensen. He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 1, 1943, to May 31, 1946. He served with the 824th Tank Destroyer Division as a staff sergeant in the European Theatre, the Battle of the Bulge and Normandy. He was honorably discharged from the service at Fort Bragg, N.C. He then moved to Thomson, Ill., where he farmed. He married Laura Hoy on Jun 8, 1946, in Thomson. After their marriage, they moved to Clinton, Iowa, and farmed there until 1950, when they moved to Fairchild and continued to farm until 1956. They then moved to Illinois where he worked as a machinist for the Farebanks-Morris Co. and, after it was sold, the P.H. Harnishfiger Co. He worked there until 1963 when they moved to Chili, and he went back to dairy farming until 1996. At that time, he retired from farming and after a short stay in Hatfield, they moved to Humbird. He took a part-time job at McDonald’s in Black River Falls from 1997-2003. He was a member of the Humbird Melcher-Matti American Legion Post #320.

Survivors include his wife, Laura; two sons, Jerry (Patricia) Jensen, Chilton, Ill., and Thomas (Marcia) Jensen, Pardeeville; three grandchildren, Bethany Jensen, Milwaukee, Daniel Jensen, Albuquerque, N.M., and Megan Jensen, Pardeeville; two step-grandchildren, Jaime Caskey, Pardeeville, and Lori Knutson, Oshkosh; one great-grandson, Dylan Caskey, Pardeeville; and one sister, Annette Carber, Camanche, Iowa. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Erwin Jensen.

The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
