Marth, Alfred R.F. (5 Feb 1888 - 21 Nov 1913)

Alfred R.F. Marth died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marth on Grand Ave. (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.), Friday, Nov. 21, 1913, of tuberculosis. By his death this city loses one of its most promising young men, just at the gateway of life.

He was born on a farm west of Neillsville Feb. 5, 1888. When a few months old his parents moved into Neillsville. Here he grew to manhood, attended school and while yet a young boy he began work in the C.C. Sniteman Co. drug store and began at the bottom to study for his chosen profession of druggist. His faithfulness and industry, his courtesy to customers and readiness to help made him much liked not only by his employers, but also by the public generally. After about six years of apprenticeship he went to Philadelphia and entered the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in Sept. 1908. While taking his college course he worked his own way much of the time, finding employment in the large drug store of the White Pharmacy Co. He graduated last spring, receiving his degree of P. D. and in May came home for a rest, being somewhat run down and weak from hard study and close indoor work. For a time he seemed to gain rapidly, but a severe cold gave him a setback and from that time he slowly declined. His gentleness and patience during his illness, his cheerfulness in the face of baffled plans and hopes, endeared him to all. His death does indeed seem sad.
