Hudson, Sidney P. (2 Augl 1887 - 16 May 1904)

The community was shocked on Monday morning by the sudden death of Sidney Paul Hudson, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Hudson. His death occurred about 7:10 a.m. The young man had retired the evening before in apparent sound health, and had arisen about 6:40 a.m. the following morning, and leaving the house entered the yard, and evidently stumbled and fell, his head striking the sharp corner of a board, death overtaking him instantly. His lifeless body was discovered a few moments later and physicians were called but he was beyond all aid. The supposition is that an artery was ruptured by the fall, death ensuing immediately. He was born at Fond du Lac, Wis., on Aug. 2, 1887, and came here (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) with his parents the following year. Here he had spent his life attending school and was to have been one of the graduating class at the commencement exercises to be held next month, and had in preparation an essay entitled "Class Prophesy," in anticipation of that event. This startlingly sudden death has cast a gloom over the entire community, for Sidney was a model young man and universally beloved by all whom knew him. Among his classmates he was a general favorite, and out of respect for his memory the High School department was closed for the day, and the flag on the building lowered to half-mast. The funeral was held from the family residence yesterday afternoon, Rev. J. B. Bachman officiating, and his remains were laid to rest in the Thorp Village Cemetery. Among the many floral tributes from friends and relatives, was a beautiful floral harp design from his classmates of the High School. His parents and sorrowing relatives have the sincere heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in this, their sudden bereavement.
