Nelson, Dr. Gaylord W.

Dr. G. W. Nelson, now retired, graduated from Marquette University in 1924 as Dr. of Ental Science and came to Loyal, Clark County, Wis. the same year. He practiced dentistry here for 41 years.

In 1925 he married Miss Bertha Spies, a teacher from Gillett, Wis. The Nelsons have a son, George, who is Chief Medical Technician at Memorial Hospital, Medford, and a daughter, Gay, who is an instructor of Dental Hygiene at Marquette University.

The doctor served in the military during World War I and is a member of the Loyal American Legion Post # 175. He has completed over 25 years of membership in the Masonic Lodge, No. 335 F. & A. M., of Loyal, and is a past president of the Loyal Rotary Club. At one time Dr. Nelson played saxophone in the Community Band at Loyal, and has taken part in a number of stage performances sponsored by local groupls. The doctor and Hall and Percy Voight sang as a trio for various occasions.

Dr. Nelson suffered a stroke five years ago while he and Bertha were at their cottage on Island Lake, Manitowish Waters. While the doctor has made a substantial recovery, the severity of the stroke forced his early retirement in 1965.

Dr. Nelson's hobby is enjoying every minute and the little things most of us take for granted, such as his ability to drive, the full use of his hands, and having time to spend with his family.
