Courter, Charlotte (1854 - 1 Mar 1888)

Died, at her home in the town of Thorp, Clark County, Wis., on Thursday, March 1, 1888, Lottie, wife of George Courter, of quick consumption, aged 33 years.

Charlotte Crane was born in the town of Plymouth, Sheboygan Co., Wis., in the year 1854. On Feb. 22, 1871 she was married to George W. Courter. In the year 1872 Mrs. Courter removed with her husband to Clark County and resided near the present village of Hemlock. In the fall of 1873 Mr. Courter removed with his family to his present home in the town of Thorp, where they have since resided. Among the first settlers of this town, Mrs. Courter has proved to be a true and devoted help-meet to her husband, a tender and loving mother to a family of five children, three boys and two girls, the youngest a boy of about two years of age, who are left motherless at a tender age with only a father's care. Lottie, as she was familiarly called by her many friends, was a kind and affectionate mother, and was greatly beloved and respected by a large circle of friends who sadly mourn her loss to the community and extend to the bereaved husband and motherless children their sincerest sympathy. Attacked by that dread destroyer consumption and confined to her bed since early last autumn she has been a patient sufferer, never complaining, but trusting all to "Him who doeth all things well," her last thoughts and prayers were for the welfare of her husband and family. Her remains were laid to rest in the East Thorp Cemetery on Sunday last, being followed to the grave by a large number of sympathizing friends and relatives; there being no funeral sermon preached owing to the inability to obtain a minister in time. A funeral sermon will be preached at the Baptist Church on Sunday next. A devoted Christian she passed quietly to rest in the arms of her Savior, her life work ended, her sufferings passed for an eternity of happiness in heaven. May her family and friends, all seek to emulate her exemplary Christian life looking ever to Jesus, for strength and comfort, every endeavor to meet her who has only "gone before" them.
