Imig, Henry (17 OCT 1842 - 5 May 1918)

Henry Imig, who had been ill for some time with heart trouble, died at his home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) Sunday morning , Mary 5, 1918. He was born in Prussia, Oct. 17, 1842, being the son of Philip and Christina Imig. They came to Wisconsin in 1843 and settled in Waukesha Co. until 1854. He worked in a store in Waukesha and made his home with his sister for some time.

On Aug. 15, 1862 he enlisted in Co. B. 28th Wis. Vol. Inft. And saw much active service in the Civil War. He was in the expedition to Yazoo Pass in March and April of 1863. He was in actions at Helena, Ark., Mr. Elba, Ft. Blakesly, Mobile and many other places. In one action he assisted in capturing 800 prisoners. He was taken sick and spent much time in Army hospital at Little Rock, Ark., and in Milwaukee and Madison. He was mustered out Aug. 21, 1965 at Madison. He went to live with his sister, and later bought 100 acres of land in Jefferson Co. and made it into a fine farm. He was married in April 1868 to Miss Louisa Miller, whose home was near Ft. Atkinson. They moved here in March 1901 and bought the James Reddan farm north of the city, which was their home until 1914, when they bought the Tolford home and moved to the city. No man ever moved into this community who at once secured the general confidence of all, more quickly than did Mr. Imig. And as years passed it was more and more shown that he was a man well worthy of all the confidence and respect that had been given to him. He was a man of sterling honesty, modest and unassuming in his manner, but with intelligent convictions on all matters of importance. He was not only a good farmer, but also a high minded citizen who stood for the best things in all lines of life.

He leaves his wife and four children: Charles, who lives at Rudolph, Wis., William and Arthur, on the home farm north of Neillsville and Miss Amelia Imig at home.

The funeral took place at the M.E. Church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. L.B. Colman of this city and Rev. Mr. Loeck of Grand Rapids officiating. The G.A.R., of which he was a member and the W.R.C. attended in a body.
