Epding, John (15 NOV 1853 - 31 Jan 1917)

John Epding, a respected farmer of the town of Levis, Clark County, Wis., died very suddenly Wednesday night, Jan. 31, 1917, his death being due to heart failure. He had gone to bed in about his usual health and apparently died as if sleeping, without a struggle.

Mr. Epding was born in Germany Nov. 15, 1853, and lived there till he was 27 years of age, when he came to Chicago. There he was married Oct. 27, 1883 to Miss Minnie Schnitzer, and there they made their home tille they came to Neillsville, four years ago. While living in Chicago Mr. Epding was proprietor of a sausage factory. On coming here he bought a farm in Levis, just south of Day Corners, and was making a success of farming by industry and energy. His wife’s health had not been good for many years and he devoted much time to her cure. He was a kin husband and father and good neighbor.

He leaves besides his wife, one daughter, Anna, Mrs. Arthur Epp, who lives near by, and three sons, Otto, John Jr. and Alfred, all living in Chicago; also five grandchildren. His sudden death was a great shock to all the family, and they have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.

The funeral was held this week Tuesday at the home, burial taking place in the Neillsville Cemetery, Rev. D. Grether officiating.
