Johnson, Mary Jane (10 Feb 1846 - 22 Oct 1916)

Mrs. Mary Jane Johnson died at her home near Oxford Sunday, Oct. 22, 1916, aged 70 years, eight months and twelve days. She was born in Walworth Co., Wis., her maiden name being Mary Jane Mereness. Her mother died when she was four years of age and she came to Oxford to make her home with her maternal grandparents. There she grew to womanhood, and in 1865 was married to Wm. N. Johnson; a short time afterward they moved upon the farm which had been her home ever since, about fifty years. Her husband preceded her in death five years ago. Her life was devoted to her home, husband, and children. Her work was faithfully and lovingly performed. No higher praise can be said or written of anyone than May be said of her: she was a good woman. In early life she joined the Presbyterian Church and remained a faithful member to the end.

She leaves to mourn her death four sons and two daughters: E. C. Johnson of Peewaukee, Thos. B. Johnson of Endeavor, John M. Johnson of Oxford, Wm. G. Johnson of Morristown, S.D., Mrs. Geo. E. Crothers of Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., and Mrs. Chas. U. Morgan of Oxford, besides twelve grandchildren. The funeral was held Tuesday at the home, Rev. T.S. Johnson of Beaver Dam and Rev. Mr. Andrus of Oxford officiating.
