Alvin and Alice Lavene and family now run the farm that was bought by his grandfather, Emil Winkelman in 1901. Emil Winkelman was born in Germany on August 19, 1875 and came to Wisconsin with his parents and three sisters when he was a small boy. They settled on a small farm in the southeast part of Wisconsin at Neosho, in Dodge County. On January 2, 1898, he married Amelia Greeler who was born near Neosho on September 20, 1877. They operated a cheese factory near Watertown for a short time. Their daughter, Hattie, was born there on April 9, 1899. The farm they moved to was in Section 29 of York. They arrived in the fall of 1901. There was a log barn and house on the place and they lived there until 1905 when they built the brick house. There was very little cleared land. The barn was built in 1904.

Mr. Winkelman passed away August 13, 1960 and Mrs. Winkelman on April 17, 1968. They had one daughter, Hattie Forman, who still lives on the farm. She has one son, Alvin, the present operator of the farm.

Alvin married Alice Pachal and they have three children. Bonnie is married to Roger Bender and lives near Loyal. They have four children. Gary lives near Marshfield and works building trailer houses. Rickey lives at home and has worked the past four years in Neillsville at Mallegni's store where he has been a meat cutter for some time. During the winter months he is a referee at volleyball games for Neillsville High School. He also drives a bulk milk route at times and occasionally a school bus.
