SMITHERS, WILLIAM B.

Mr. and Mrs. William H. Smithers came to Clark County in March 1885 from Iowa and purchased a farm in the town of York where they resided until their death. They were the parents of 10 children, four of whom preceded them in death. The other six were Emily Smithers, Mrs. Edna Lawrence, Mrs. Maggie Hales, Mrs. Lois Fulwiler, Mrs. Ella Stiles, and Mrs. Dora Rowe. William was born in Yorkshire, England and came to the United States with his parents in 1838, was a Methodist and died at the age of 83 in 1905 after suffering with cancer for about nine years. His wife, the former Lois Knight, was born in Vermont and died at the age of 81 in 1906. They.are both buried in the York Center Methodist Cemtery.
