Ferris, Harvey C. (30 May 1858 - 30 Augl 1920)

Harvey C. Ferris was born near Baraboo, Wis., May 30, 1858, and died at Raymond, Wash, Aug. 30, 1920, of valvular heart trouble, which had developed about six months before.

In 1864 his mother, having received word that his father had died of wounds at Washington, D.C., joined her parents, the Rev. Harvey Palmer and wife, at Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. She later bought a couple of lots and built herself a home on what is now South Hewett St., but was at that time in the woods. Here Harvey grew to manhood.

He was married to Hattie E. Webster May 11th, 1887. To this union eleven children have been born, two of whom are deceased. After being married a couple of years they moved to Aspen, Colo., where they lived four years. They have lived in Raymond about ten years.

When the U.S. engaged in war against Germany they moved to Tacoma, where he worked in the ship yard until laid up by an injury to his arm and shoulder.

His oldest son, Glen, was in the fighting in France and also in the army of occupation in Germany.

The next, Frank, was ona transport and made five trips across the water. The ship he was on was engaged in one fight with a submarine, which lasted about thirty minutes. He was one of the men honored for bravery by Secretary Daniels.

George helped nurse flu patients at Camp Grant.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 1st, from the Henderson Chapel, Rev. Geo. F. Hopkins officiating. Interment was in the Fern Hill Cemetery.
