Hansen, Ronald (26 MAY 1940 - 26 Mar 1970)

A grinding, fiery crash killed a 29 year old Loyal, Clark County, Wis. man shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday morning, March 26, about 1 ½ miles south of Colby. Ronald Hansen died instantly in the crash.

The car was completely demolished when it struck a guard rail and bridge abutment.

Hansen was southbound when he apparently lost control of his car on an icy patch on the highway. The car struck the guard rail before the bridge. It skidded along top of the rail until it struck the abutment. It then flipped over across the stream, landing in a ditch on the east side of the highway. The frame, wheels and motor were completely torn from the body of the car in the violent crash. The car then burst into flames, which were spotted by passing motorists. The Colby fire department was called and Marathon County authorities investigated the accident.

The body was removed to the Buhoff Funeral Home at Colby.

Funeral services were held at Loyal Monday with the Rev. John Olson officiating. Burial was made in St. Anthony’s Catholic Parish at Loyal.

Hansen had been employed at the Greenwood Cooperative at Loyal. Survivors include his wife a son, five step-children, his mother, Mrs. Matt Hansen of Neillsville and five brothers and six sisters.
