Makovec, Molly G. (Marriage - ?)

Gowned in a dress of Swiss imported organdy with short sleeves, a full skirt with lace inserts, and matching mitts, Miss Molly G. Makovec, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Makovec Sr., Owen, became the bride of August Mertens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peters Meretens Sr., Withee, in a nuptial ceremony performed on Saturday morning at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen. The Rev. Raymond Bornbach officiated at the 9 o’clock rites.

The bride’s finger-tip veil of French illusion extended from a Juliet cap and she carried a bridal bouquet.

Mrs. Emily Makovec, sister-in-law of the bride, assisted as matron of honor. Her gown of green taffeta featured an off-the-shoulder-effect net yoke, full skirt with a bustle. Assorted gladioli composed her bouquet.

The bridesmaids, Mrs. Imogene Mertens, sister-in-law of the groom, and Miss Bonnie J. Miller, niece of the groom, wore dresses of lavender and yellow, respectively, styled similar to the matron of honor’s dress. They also carried matching bouquets of gladioli.

The groom’s attendants were Joe Makovec, brother of the bride, and Gene Mertens, brother of the groom, and Loren Miller, also groomsmen. Louie Novak ushered for the ceremony.

For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Makovec wore a black print dress and the groom’s mother wore a navy blue print dress. Both wore white accessories and a corsage of yellow roses.

After the ceremony, a breakfast was served at the home of the groom’s brother-in-law, and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Miller, followed by a dinner at the bride’s home at 1 p.m.

Both are graduates of high school with the class of 1942, the groom from the Withee High School and the bride from the Owen High School.

The groom is employed in the trucking business, and when they returned from a trip to southern Wisconsin, they will reside in Owen.
