Carpenter, Mary S. (18 Feb 1860 - 31 OCT 1893)

Died, at her home in Garden Prairie township, near Groton, Brown Co., S.D., on Tuesday, Oct. 31st, 1893, of inflammation of the bowels, Mary Sophie, wife of C. F. Carpenter, in the 34th years of her age.

Mary Sophie Eggebrecht was born Feb. 18th, 1860, in Milwaukee. She came to this place (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.) in 1879, about two years after her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fr. Eggebrecht, located in the town of Wein, Marathon Co., on the 24th of August 1881, she was united in marriage with Chas. F. Carpenter, who survives to mourn her loss, in 1885 she moved with her husband to Dakota where they have since resided.

She was the mother of seven children, four sons and three daughters, of whom three sons and one daughter are living and mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother.

As a girl, Mary was a favorite among the young people, as she grew to womanhood she retained her genial, kindly qualities that made her friends wherever she went. She was a good woman and host of friends will mourn her sudden demise.

The remains were brought here and taken to Wein, where the funeral occurred Friday afternoon, Nov. 3rd, at the Lutheran Church, Rev. C. Schmals officiating.
