Hertz, Christina F. C. (26 Augl 1831 - 29 Sep 1893)

Died, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman Brehm, at Edgar, Wis., on Friday, Sept. 29th, 1893, of heart failure, Mrs. Christina Frederica Carolina, beloved wife of Carl Hertz, in the 63rd year of her age.

Christina Frederica Carolina Greseke was born at Polgow, in the province of Brandenburg, Prussia, Aug. 26, 1831. In 1856 she was married to Carl Hertz, who survives her. This union was blessed with 8 children, four sons and four daughters, of which three sons and two daughters still survive.

In 1873 the family came to America and settled in the town of Ashford, Fond du Lac Co., where they resided until the summer of 1877, when they came to this place and located in the town of Colby, Clark Co., Wis., where they have since resided. About three weeks ago before her death she went to Edgar to visit her daughter, Mrs. Herman Brehm. On the morning of her death she arose feeling as usual and contemplated making a trip into the town of Wein, but was taken sick between 8 and 9 o’clock and was forced to lie down, having experienced such spells before, she felt no fears as to the result, but between 12 and 1 o’clock of the same day she breathed her last. Her husband was summoned from here as quickly as possible; the remains were prepared and sent to her late home here and the funeral took place Sunday at the Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Joseph R. Fiehler and was one of the largest ever held.

She leaves to mourn her sudden demise, a husband, three sons, Charles, William and John, and two daughters, Mrs. Herman Brehm and Miss Gusta Hertz, and a brother, William Greseke. She was a kind motherly lady, much beloved by those who knew her, and her death will be sincerely mourned by many friends.
