John E. Schnitzler, 66, Marshfield, died on Friday, July 1, 2005, at the home of his daughter, Karen Lane. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield. The Rev. Peter Manickam and Jerome G. Gerum officiated Music was provided by Suzanne Golden, organist, along with congregational singing. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Trader, Clem Fischer, and David Schnitzler. Pall bearers were Steve Schnitzler, Caleb Lane, Jeff Brock, Joe Brock Gary Brock, and Dewey Schulz. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Military rites were conducted at the church by the American Legion Post # 54, Marshfield.

John E. Schnitzler was born on Nov. 26, 1938, in Marshfield, to Roman C. and Eleanor I. (nee Bores) Schnitzler. He grew up in Marshfield attending area Catholic schools. He married Dorothy A. Pongratz of Vesper, on Sept. 10, 1960, at St. James Catholic Church, Vesper, and later divorced in 1996. They lived in Marshfield, He worked at Hub Dairy, Pre-Way in Wisconsin Rapids, Clover Cream Dairy as a buttermaker, and retired from Wisconsin Homes, Marshfield. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #624 for 21 years of which he served as an officer for 14 years on various committees. He was employed as a bartender for 20 years at The Eagles, organized the Sunday polka night, and also was known as "One-eyed Jack." He was later Employed by The Dollar Bar, Marshfield, as a bartender. He served in the Wisconsin National Guard from Oct. 5, 1956, until his honorable discharge on July 15, 1960. He then served in The United States Army Reserves until Aug. 31, 1964. During this period, he was called up for six months of active duty training, stationed on Fort Chaffe, Ark. He enjoyed polka music and loved to dance. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include his two daughters, Karen 9David) Lane, Marshfield, and Patty Schnitzler, Plover; three grandchildren, Steven (Voua Xiong) Schnitzler, Plover, and Caleb Lane and Nicole Lane, Marshfield; one great-granddaughter, Lilliana G. Xiong-Schnitzler; six sisters, Bernice Volovsek, Loyal, Eileen Funk, Kaukauna, Marlene Kennedy, Wisconsin Rapids, Janice (Frank) Peko, Neillsville, Sister Carol Schnitzler, SSND, Loyal, and Mary Jane (Paul) Zimmerman, Spencer; three brothers, Donald (Gloria) Schnitzler, Charles (Beverly) Schnitzler and Thomas (Barbara) Schnitzler, all of Marshfield; and a special friend, Darleen Brock, Loyal.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Sister Joann Schnitzler, SSND, on Feb. 17, 1996.

Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home, Marshfield, assisted the family with arrangements.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Lennet Radtke, RN, and Dr. Douglas Reding, who assisted in his care, the Ministry Home Care Hospice staff and volunteers, his brothers and sisters, friends, and neighbors for all the love and support shown to us during this time. We would also like to especially thank Darleen Brock for making our dad so happy during the past six years of his life.
