MAPLE CITY - Eugene Charles "Gene" Wilcox, 53, died unexpectedly Wednesday in Curtiss, Wis.

He was the son of Charles Edwin Wilcox and Lucille Mae (Barth) Commins, born on Jan. 10, 1945, in Wauseon, Ohio.

Gene graduated from Glen Lake Community High School in 1963. He was active in the Glen Arbor Volunteer Fire Department while employed as an electronic production engineer at Communications Equipment Co. in Glen Arbor from 1965 to 1987. After moving to Manitowoc, Wis., he worked at Jones Intercable until his move to the Curtiss area.

Survivors include his children, U.S. Marine Charles (Buffie) Wilcox of Fort Worth, Texas, Kelli L. (Robert) Stabler of Gilbert, Ariz., Tanya J. Wilcox of Maple City, Simone (Fred) Baillergeon of Sun City Center, Fla., Douglas, (Pam) Szot of Baton Rouge, La., Dwayne (Marianne) Szot of Minneapolis, Minn., and Holly (David) Wilkins of Honor; eight brothers and sisters, Anita (Jerry) Sinnaeve of Manitowoc, Wis., Shirley Zastawny of Traverse City, Sharon (Erwin) Schuette of Manitowoc, Wis., Joyce (Leonard) Schaub of Traverse City, Carol (Edwin) Stevens of Lake Ann, Robert (Silvia) Wilcox of Two Rivers, Wis., Arnold (Sue) Wilcox of Potter, Wis., and U.S. Marine Gunnery Sgt. Daniel Commins, stationed in North Carolina; four uncles, Paul (Theresa) Barth of Duarte, Calif., Ernest Barth of Ludington, Norman (Phyllis) Barth of Benzonia, and Louis Barth of Baldwin Park, Calif.; five grandchildren, Michael Wilcox, Anthony Wilcox, Sydney Szot, Carson Szot, and Robert Wilkins; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his uncle, Wayne Barth; and his brother-in-law, Luka Zastawny.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements were by the Branerd Funeral Home in Medford, Wis.

A graveside memorial service for EUGENE CHARLES 'GENE' WILCOX, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rosehill Cemetery in Maple City.

Gene, 53, a resident of Curtiss, Wis. and a former resident of Leelanau County, died unexpectedly Dec. 30, 1998 in Curtiss.
