Hemphill, Belle (10 Jul 1856 - 7 Sep 1931)

Mrs. Belle Hemphill of Spencer, who had been failing in health for two years, died Monday evening, September 7, 1931, at the home of her son, Joseph Hemphill, west Seventh street, Spencer. Death was caused by a complication of diseases.

Wednesday morning at 9:00 o’clock, funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart church in Spencer, the Rev. Father M. C. Wendl, having charge of mass. Burial was made in the Calvary cemetery at Milford.

Mrs. Hemphill, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Dean) McGuire was born July 10, 1856, at Burlington, Iowa. In 1868, her parents moved to Ackley, Iowa, where they resided until in the fall of 1882. At that time the family moved to Milford, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Thomas L. Hemphill January 20, 1884. Her husband preceded her in death fourteen years ago. She was a faithful member of the Catholic church all of her life.

She is survived by seven children, George and Frank of Milford, Iowa, Joseph and Willard of Spencer, High (?Hugh) of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Mae Bremer and Mrs. Estella Roth of Loyal, Wisconsin. She leaves to mourn her death 19 grandchildren, and two brothers and two sisters, J. S. McGuire of Spencer, Hugh McGuire of Des Moines, Mary E. McGuire and Mrs., M. E. Dickinson of Spencer.

Mrs. Hemphill is well and favorably known in Loyal and Vicinity, having soent some time with her daughters, Mrs. Bremer and Mrs., Roth.

Her many friends are grieved to learn of her death and extend sympathy to the bereaved families.
