THORP - Leon L. Kaczmarek, 91, of Thorp, died Friday, July 1, 2005, at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. Burial will follow in New St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday with a 7 p.m. rosary service, and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

He was born March 22, 1914, in Lublin, the son of Albert and Magdalene (Wysowski) Kaczmarek. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 20, 1943, and served until his honorable discharge on Dec. 1, 1945. He married Lillian Teclaw on Sept. 1, 1948, at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church. Together they operated a tavern in Thorp, Leon & Lil's, for 52 years until their retirement on July 1, 2000. He enjoyed Chicago Cubs baseball, hunting, fishing and was a big supporter of the Thorp community. He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, a 60-year member of the Thorp American Legion and a former member of the Wisconsin Tavern League.

He is survived by his wife, Lil, of Thorp; one sister, Helen Shewczyk of Stanley; two sisters-in-law, Frances Kaczmarek of Chicago and Ann Kaczmarek of Lublin; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
