IRENE LLOYD SAVES VICTIM OF CAR GAS

Tom Halpin Discovered Unconscious; Recovers at Hospital

Tom Halpin, 76 years old, 146 East Thirteenth St., narrowly escaped death from carbon monoxide poisoning. Monday afternoon in his garage when he was discovered unconscious by Miss Irene Lloyd who had gone to the Halpin residence for a pail of water.

Mr. Halpin had been working on his car and believes the wind blow the doors of the garage shut. Miss Lloyd heard the motor of the car running and opened the garage door and called. Receiving no answer she at first thought no one was in the garage and turned to go away when she heard someone groan. She rushed in, switched the motor off and threw the doors open. She then ran to a nearby home to telephone for Dr. Housley and the Schiller ambulance.

As Dr. Housley and Dr. Sweet came out of the Housley home they asked Rev. P. B. White, who was shoveling the Methodist Church sidewalk if he knew where the Halpin home was and as Rev. Mr. White knew, he accompanied the doctors.

Mr. Halpin was taken to the Neillsville Hospital where he recovered rapidly and was able to be taken home Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Halpin, who was found lying under the running board of his car, said he was unable to recall what happened. He remembered opening the garage doors, he said, but did not know they had closed.
