Hattie was born Oct. 14, 1920, in rural Lublin to Michael and Tillie (Bilhacz) Kowalski. She grew up on the Kowalski farm and attended school and church in Lublin. She met Rudy Potocnik and they were married June 17, 1939, in Neillsville. They settled down on the Potocnik family farm, where they farmed for 45 years before moving to Owen in 1991. If we remember Hattie, we remember her for her love of dancing. The polka was her favorite. She loved her Polish polka music and dancing. It made her come alive like nothing else could. She loved her family, liked gardening and was a great cook. She also loved making ceramic decorations and working at her church. She was a volunteer at the Clark County Health Care Center. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church.
