Hawks, Henry (1858 - 21 Dec. 1933)

Henry Hawks well known in Neillsville for many years, died at his home in Greenwood, Dec. 21, in his seventy-fourth year.

Mr. Hawks was born in Neillsville one of the first white children born in this locality. His parents were very early settlers, locating on land near the north edge of the present city of Neillsville, the place being known still as Hawks’ Hill.

Deceased grew to manhood here, worked in lumber camps and on the river, for several years followed the mason trade. After a number of years spent in the west he and his wife returned and settled at Greenwood where they made their home until his death.

He was in poor health for sometime, and was in the hospital at Marshfield where one of his legs was amputated. He came home later but did not fully rally from the operation.

He leaves only his wife. They had no children.

The funeral was held at the Schiller Funeral home in Neillsville Saturday afternoon, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating.
