Maritzkee, August (8 Augl 1867 - 12 JUN 1928)

August Maritzkee was born in Germany, Aug. 8, 1867, and was 60 years, 9 months and 27 days old at time of death. When he was 4 years old he had scarlet fever which robbed him of his hearing, thus making him a deaf mute. Fifty-two years ago, he with his parents, came to the U. S. and settled in Milwaukee. In Oct. 1877 they came to Dorchester where they settled on the farm 2 ½ miles east of town. August attended the school for the deaf at Delavan three years and except for a few years at Rib Lake and Milan in the saw mill has always lived in Dorchester country. He has two brothers, Fred living here and Julius in the town of Deer Creek, and two sisters, Mrs. L. Showers of Bradley and Mrs. Clara Bucher of Westboro. After the others all had home of their own and he and his mother were alone, they moved into the village where the mother died four years ago. Since then, he and his brother, Fred, who is a widower, have lived together. Sunday, June 3rd, Gus took suddenly ill with paralysis of the brain and passed away Tuesday morning at 8:20. He was laid to rest Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. from St. Peter’ s Lutheran Church, Rev. Wuebben of Abbotsford officiating, and Joe Kronschnabl, George Herman, Fred Plockelman, Herman Marquardt, Dick and Fred Meade acting as pallbearers.

The out of town folks here for the unreal were his brother Julius and family, town of Deer Creek, two sisters, Mrs. L. Showers of Bradley, Mrs. Clara Bucher of Westboro, his nephew, Wm. Maritzkee of Milwaukee and Mr. and Mrs. John Bucher and family of Rib Lake.
