Thayer, Mabel (27 MAY 1903)

(Unity Register)

On Wednesday, May 27th, 1903, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Schmitz was the scene of a pretty wedding when Miss Mabel Thayer and Mr. E. W. Schmitz were united in the bonds of matrimony, the ceremony took place at 4 o’clock p.m., the Rev. E. A. McKinney of Marshfield officiating. Only relatives and a few intimate friends being present. The bride is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Thayer, she is an estimable young lady and counts her friends by the score. The groom is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Schmitz and is an upright, ambitious and clever young businessman, who has lived here all his life and enjoys the respect and confidence of the entire community. The bride was dressed in white crepe du chine. They were attended by Misses Ida Schmitz and Cora Yahr and Messrs. O. H. Groelle and Henry Binning. After the ceremony a sumptuous wedding supper was served in the richly decorated dining room, a very novel and interesting feature of the supper was a beautiful wedding cake which came all the way from Ft. Wingate, New Mexico, with compliments of Sgt. C. J. Vogt and Sgt. H. H. Kuehling of the 14th U. S. Cavalry, it was the handiwork of the regimental cook and is evidence that he is master of the art. They were the recipients of many valuable presents. The couple left Thursday afternoon for a trip through the southern part of the state, stopping at Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Waupun, Fond du Lac, Appleton and other points. They expect to be gone two weeks, when they will go to housekeeping on the west side. The Register joins their many friends in wishing them a smooth journey over the sea of matrimony.
