MARSHFIELD - Susan Lewis, age 49, of Marshfield, died on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield after a brief illness. Susan Gail Lewis was born on May 25, 1955, in La Crosse to Peter G. and Bettie R. (Renstrom) Haines. In her youth, Susan was an accomplished dancer. She attended grade school in Onalaska and later graduated from West High School in Madison. Susan then attended UW Madison and later UW Stevens Point where in 1997 she earned a Bachelors degree in elementary education. Susan was united in marriage to Richard R. Lewis on Oct. 14, 1978. The couple moved to Telluride, Colo. during the summer of 1979 and later served as volunteers for the Peace Corps from 1979 until 1981 in Kenya, Africa. After returning from Africa Susan held various positions as a secretary and administrative assistant. Most recently she was employed at Figi's of Marshfield. Susan was an avid golfer and a former member of the Neillsville Country Club. She was also active in several women's softball leagues and a member of the Neillsville United Church of Christ.

She is survived by her parents, Bettie Haines of Seattle, Wash. and Peter (Cecy) Haines of Prairie Du Sac; a son, Alexander Lewis of Neillsville; a daughter, Sela Lewis, of Neillsville; a brother, Randall (Meijein) Haines; nephews, Nathan Haines and Adam Haines, of Madison; and a niece, Mena Haines, of Woodinville, Wash. Susan is further survived by many cousins and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Cyril and Arvilla Haines and George and Mildred Renstrom.

Funeral Services for Susan will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at the UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST in Neillsville. Pastor James Mohr will officiate. Music will be provided by Deon Spangler, organist, and Corrine Armitage, soloist. Interment will be held in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., on Wednesday at the UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Susan's family with Funeral Arrangements.
