Wilcox, August 8, 1894

C. Christianson, of Fairchild, has taken charge of a threshing engine at this place. Oscar Bolton of Humbird, is visiting friends and relatives in this vicinity. A refreshing rain visited us the past week, but too late to help potatoes any. Roy Lawrence entertained the boys Wednesday, the occasion being his birthday. Tom Gallen of Waupaca County, called on friends and relatives in this vicinity last eek. G.S. Rowe and wife made a pleasure trip through the Town of Lynn last Thursday.. We understand that Free Methodist cam meeting is to take place soon. Amos why didn't you catch that coon last Friday? Jennie Rowe and Hattie Lindsley are the champion berry picker sin York, so say the rumor. Sid Garvin and wife of Loyal, are visiting at this place. M.V. Visgar of Grant, transacted business here last week. Jumbo contemplates taking a trip to Minnesota soon. Hannah O'Brien is making calls in our midst. The people of this place join together in crying Hurrah for Upham. Peck will have stand to one side. F.L. Snyder is elected chief templar of the I.O.G.T Lodge for the next quarter. Frank Snyder visited at Lynn and Pittsville the past week. RE. Sweet and wife of Lynn, were callers here last Friday. Maud Humiston and Effie Gibson spent the past week at Neillsville. Henry Peat transacted business at the county seat Friday. Mont Morrin and lady attended the Crusade meeting at Loyal last Friday. Rollie Lee of the Windfall, is a frequent visitor at this place, but we have failed to learn the object of these visits. As yet no damage has been done by forest fires in York, but people have had to fight it to keep it under control,. Frost last Thursday night ripened corn and buckwheat somewhat. Lois Lawrence called on her grandparents last week. Lillian Canfield will teach in Dist. No. 2 this fall. Cyrus Snyder, Lyman Johnson, Geo. Whalen and Albion Snyder attended the Crusade meeting at Loyal last Wednesday evening. E. Grabe and John Lincoln will run a dray to and from Granton. The frame of Mr. Bart's house is nearly completed. James Davison was a welcome caller in these parts last Friday. Say, A.I., why don't you hustle that party along? Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Root, a daughter, Friday, August 3rd. George Rowe made a business trip to Marshfield Sunday. Mrs. S.A. Adams met with an accident last Friday while on her way to Granton. Her Horse became frightened at tome pigs that were in the road, and tipped her out, breaking her arm quite badly. At this writing she is doing finely. A good time has had at the Good Templars hall last Saturday evening. $11 was taken in. Rev. Everett, district lecturer, was in attendance and had charge of the meeting. All we regret is that Cy Stockwell didn't get ice cream enough. Hattie King s is down with the mumps and some Mr. Chapel's children with the chicken pox. Mrs. Mary Redmond visited relatives at Granton the latter part of the week. While Lyme Johnson was mowing with Ben Turners mules last week Wednesday they became unmanageable and ran away, scattering Lyme and the mower all over a 18 acre lot. Lyme was picked up in a dazed condition, but was uninjured beyond a hard shaking up. Rev. Hanks occupied the pulpit at the Redmond Church Sunday and C.J. Everett at the Center. Mrs. West of Pleasant Ridge, was the guest of Mrs. Mortimer Sunday. People were obliged to lend a helping hand to John Vandeberg last Monday afternoon in order to save his building. Forest fires were raging just west of his house and a strong gale of wind carried it across the road but by the prompt efforts of the neighbors it was stopped before any damage was done. A.P. Fulwiler, H.F. Gibson and W.H. Rowe visited the county seat Monday evening to see their best girls.
