Jessie M. (Peterson) Johnson(1902 - 1988)

Withee -- Jessie M. Johnson, 85, Onalaska, died Monday (May 9, 1988) at the home of her son.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee. The Rev. Paul Peterson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Fossum Funeral Home, Onalaska, from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, and at the church on Thursday from noon until 2 p.m. The Eastern Star No. 249 services will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, both at the funeral home.

She was born Aug. 4, 1902 in Colby, to Nels and Susan Peterson.

She was married to Fred L. Johnson July 25, 1929, in Milwaukee. He died in 1959.

She worked as an elementary school teacher in Marathon, Clark and LaCrosse counties for 24 years.

She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star No. 185 of Abbotsford and a member of the Holmen American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 284.

She is survived by one son, Fredric E. Johnson of Onalaska; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Eileen) Calkins of Cattage Grove, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Neil (Eileen) Vater of Owen; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, three brothers, and two sisters.
