DIED

PETERSON -- At her home in this city (Colby, WI), on Sept. 5th, 1897, of paralysis, Margit, wife, of Niels P. Petrson,in the 56th year of her age.

Margit Sigurdson was born in Norway, June 23d, 1842; she came to America in 1870, and lived for a time with her brother, in the town of Farmington, Waupaca county, where she was united in marriage with Niels P. Peterson, May 12, 1873; in March, the following year they came to Colby, where they have since resided; she was the mother of five children, four sons and one daughter, one son, Niels survives her loss, the others having preceeded her across the dark river.

February 22d, 1887 she was stricken with paralysis and since that time has been almost helpless; in February 1895 a second stroke deprived her of her speech and left her more helpless than before; on Saturday morning Aug. 28th, she received a third stroke under which she gradually sunk until the time of her death, last Sunday.

Mrs. Peterson was decidedly a home woman, her whole heart was wraped up in her home, her husband and her family. Her other children all having died, her whole soul seemed to center about the remaining child, Niels, and it was during a sickness of his and through her anxiety for him that she received her first stroke of paralaysis. Outside of her family Mr. Peterson was kind and cheery. No tale of woe, when recited to her, fell on deaf ears. She was always ready to do what she could to relieve distress and suffering, or to greet and make a friend happy, but as we said before, her greatest happiness was found in her home surroundings.

The funeral occurred on Tuesday, at the M. E. Church, Rev. S. A. Hoffman officiating, and the remains were interred in Colby cemetery, beside those loved ones who had gone before and had never known a mothers endearing love. The pall bearers were Messrs. H. P. Rassmussen, Peter Madsen, Wm. Stead, John Kaarup, Wm. Henkel, and Reinhold Martin, all employes of N. P. Peterson's M'f'g Co. Mr. Peterson, who owing to severe illness, was nable to atted the funeral, and the one son, Niels, mourn the loss of a devot4d wife and a loving mother, who has been a great sufferer for years, and a community of friends sympathize with them.

(According to parish records in Tinn, Norway, Margit was born June 23, 1842 to Gunuf Sigurdsen and his wife Kirsti Johnsdatter at Grimstad. She was baptised September 11, 1842.

Gunuf Sigurdsen, Grimstad, 30 years old, married Kirsti Johnsdatter, Skaaberg, 20 years old, on October 15, 1830.

The parents of Gunnuf, born January 24, 1801 were Sigurd Holjesen and Guro Gunufsdatter.)
