Franke, D. Helen (13 Aug 1908 – 27 Jul 1997)

D. Helen Franke, 88, died Friday, July 27, 1997 in St. Cloud, MN, as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident.

She was born Aug. 13, 1908 to Joseph P. and Carrie (Roen) McDonough in St. Paul, M N She married Kurt (Schroeder) Franke March 16, 1944. She was employed for over 40 years by the Drs. Milton and Sarah Rosekrans.

After her retirement in 1973, she became Neillsville’s city health officer. In her retirement years, she also was gainfully employed for about nine years as an administrative office clerk for the Green Thumb program. While her children were attending elementary and junior high, she was also very active in the former Congregational Church Sunday School education program.

In 1993 the Neillsville Area Chamber recognized her for outstanding com m unity participation. At the time of her death, she still maintained the commission of city health officer. Survivors include a son, John R. (Clarice) Franke of Black River Falls; a son-in-law , Lavem Johnson of Roseau, MN; a granddaughter, Kaila (Jeremy) Richmond, Medford, OR ; and two grandsons, Kirk J. and Luke Franke, Black River Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Jean Johnson; and her granddaughter, Melanie Johnson - Risinger, who also died o f injuries suffered in the S t. Cloud traffic accident.

Family graveside memorial services for D. Helen Franke will be Sunday, Aug. 24, at 1 p. m in the Neillsville Cemetery. T h e Rev. Cheryl Matthews of Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. The Cremation Society of Minnesota and the Torgerson Funeral Chapel assisted with the arrangements.

A surprise family gathering held Sunday at the home of Paul and Wendy Kramas in honor of the 80th birthday of her grandmother, Mrs. Nora Witt.

About 50 relatives and friends spent the afternoon and evening. Mrs. Witt’s children present were Mr. and Mrs. Ski Kolczyski and family, Somerville, N.J.; Mrs. Doris Nidy and family, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Val Wojner and family and Mrs. Marge Witt and family, Abbotsford.

Mrs. Witt’s sisters and brother were Mrs. Lydia Marks, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Zuehl and Martin Mathias, all of Marion.

A brother, Art, Milwaukee, was unable to be present.

Friends were from Pier Lake and the Abbotsford area. Mrs. Witt received word of the birth of a great-great-grandson as a special birthday gift.

Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Klinkhammer, Abbotsford, and Mr. and Mrs. William Thornberg, Denver, Colorado.

The 1956 graduating class of Abbotsford High School had it twenty year class reunion Saturday night at the VFW Hall in Colby.

Twenty three of the 36 graduates attended.

Prizes were awarded to Dale Carlson for the first return; Delores Shell fo travelling the longest distance (Linwood, Kansas) and for the 20th return; Alice Kittle for the first grandchild, and Lucianne Kunze for most children (10).

Games were played for entertainment and lunch, including a pink and white decorated cake topped with a clown face, was served.

Roehl, Bernette Alene (14 Aug 1976)

Bernette Alene Roehl, Spencer, and Leonard George Allemann, Abbotsford, were married at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 1976.

The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Roehl, Spencer, repeated her vows with the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Allemann before the Rev. Kenneth Loehrke at Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford.

She was given in marriage by her father. The organist, Mrs. Norman Kommer, provided music during the ceremony, and accompanied Bernice Polzin, soloist.

A white empire styled floor length gown of sheer organza trimmed with Venice lace encircling neckline and hemline ending in a chapel train was selected by the bride. Her Venice lace edged veil fell from a Venice lace Camelot headpiece. She carried a colonial bouquet of red roses and white carnations.

Bridal aides, Mrs. Duane Broeske, Abbotsford, matron of honor, Janice Allemann, Mondovi, bridesmaid, and Angela Pullmann, McLean Virginia, flower girl, wore blue belle polyester crepe empire styled floor length gowns. They carried bouquets of blue daisies, white mums, and aqua carnations.

In the bridegroom’s party were Alfred Weideman, Colby, best man, Don Allemann, Mondovi, groomsman, Scott Brenner, Mondovi, ring bearer.

Lavern Roehl, Chili, and Ken Allemann, Mondovi, did ushering duties.

A reception and dinner wa held at the Olde Cedar House in Abbotsford, and a wedding dance at the Sword in Colby.

Mrs. Allemann is a 1972 graduate of Mid-State Technical Institute, Marshfield, and is a medical assistant in the hemodialysis unit, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield Clinic.

The bridegroom is a 1969 graduate of UW-River Falls, and is an AI Technician for Tri-State Breeders Co-op.

Following their return from a honeymoon to Tennessee and Kentucky, they will make their home in Abbotsford.

Underwood, Wanda Lorraine (Aug 1976)

The former Wanda Lorraine Underwood and Chester Joseph Bembenek, Jr., were married by the Rev. Francis Przybylski at St. Bronislava’s Catholic Church, Plover, Saturday.

The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orman Underwood, Dorchester, graduated from Colby High School in 1970 and in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point this year.

Mr. and Mrs. Chester Bembenek, Sr., Stevens Point, are the parents of the bridegroom, a 1970 Pacelli High School graduate working as a heavy equipment operator for Klismith Lumber Company, Stevens Point.

The bride, given in marriage by her parents, was attended by Wanita Underwood, maid of honor, and Nancy Wagner, Dilles Schmidt, Sharon Slevwright and Karen Bembenek, bridesmaids.

Marvin Bembenek served as best man, and Steve Leguin, Warren, Warren Underwood, Don Lutz and Glen Kussman were groomsmen.

Barbara Hartjes played the organ, Tom Corcoran and Bill Bigus sang, and the guests were seated by Frank Klismith and Wayne Underwood.

A reception and dinner at the Holiday Inn followed the 3 p.m. ceremony, and after a wedding trip to the Wisconsin Dells, the couple will live in Stevens Point.
