Coughlin, Timothy (25 Feb. 1854 - 26 Aug. 1932)

Timothy Coughlin, one of the older residents of Pine Valley, died at his home at an early hour Friday morning, August 26. He had been in failing health for some time, but had been able to be about until quite recently.

Timothy Coughlin was born in the Township of Douro, Peterboro County, Ontario, Canada, Feb. 25, 1854, and grew to manhood there. He was there married to Mary McMahon, Nov. 13, 1877. About a mouth later they moved to Mt. Pleasant, Mich., where they bought wild land and developed a nice farm home where they lived about 15 years. Selling the farm, they came to Clark County and lived for a year on a farm northwest of Greenwood. They then moved to Neillsville, living for about 12 years in the city. About 28 years ago they bought a small farm northwest of Neillsville in Pine Valley, which remained their home until now. Mr. Coughlin in early life worked at times in lumber camps and on the river, and in later years was also employed at various jobs when he could spare time from his farm. He was an efficient and faithful worker and was dependable in every way. He was a good husband and kind father and in every way an upright citizen.

The writer looked upon Mr. Coughlin as a personal friend; for many years he came to help us at our farm whenever he was needed and he could possibly leave his own work. In our home and with the children he was like one of our own family. We found him always a gentleman. We join with his immediate family in mourning his death.

He leaves his wife and six children: Kate, Mrs. Louie Cornest, Neillsville; Joseph at Butternut; Nora, Mrs. Henry Lindsley, Neillsville; John and Ella, Mrs. Geo. Padaris of Minneapolis; Mata, Mrs. Lawrence Schunk of Marshfield. He leaves also six grandchildren; one brother, W. J. Coughlin of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; two sisters in Michigan and one sister, a nun in Kingston, Ontario.

The funeral was held Monday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. Peter Weber officiating.

Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Philip Schunk; Mrs. H. Bilgreen, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Schunk and children, all of Marshfield; Mrs. Geo. Padaris and John Coughlin, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Moe and Mrs. Wm. Young, all of Minneapolis; Mrs. Louis Crego, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Crego and Louis Crego, all of Merrillan; Oris Young and his mother Mrs. Anton Hoganson of Chili; Mrs. Violet McMahon and daughter, Mrs. Otto Glow of Greenwood.
