Davis, Kate (21 Sept. 1868 - 19 May 1932)

Mrs. Frank Davis died at her home in Granton, Thursday evening May 19, after several years of ill health. Kate Harriman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Harriman, was born at Parishville, New York, Sept. 21, 1868. When she was 12 years old the family came to Clark county and settled in the town of Fremont, where she grew to womanhood. She attended Neillsville high school and later taught school successfully for four years.

On March 30, 1892 she was married to Frank Davis. For 17 years they lived on their farm in the town of Fremont and then moved to the Davis homestead in Granton which has been their home since. Mrs. Davis was a lady of refinement and culture. She was a charter member of the Chili Royal Neighbors, an active worker in the Circle and Ladies Aid at Granton and for many years a helpful and consistent member of the Christian church. She took an active part in public program on holidays and community programs and leaves to the people of Granton and vicinity many happy memories of her faithful work in their midst. She was a wise and loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed in her home.

She is survived by her husband one son and two daughters: Harry Davis of Wausau; Frances, Mrs. Geo. Prochazka of Neillsville, and Miss Stella Davis who teaches in Neillsville. One daughter, Gladys, died in infancy. She leaves also three grandchildren and one brother Dr. Leonard Harriman of Howard Lake, Minn.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Adventists church near the home of Granton, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. The pallbearers were relatives -- Truman Davis, Hale Davis, Ara Lee, Ernest Lee, Vint Lee and Price Lee. The Mesdames Arthur and Chas. Hubbing, Harold Trewartha and miss Ruth Pietenpol, nieces of Rms. Davis were flower girls, Mrs. Wm. Schmidtke sang two solos, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Some Day" -- the former a request by Mrs. Davis; Mrs. Crandall at the organ.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were Dr. Leonard Harriman, Howard Lake, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Davis of Wausau, Mr. and Mrs. Halder and Mrs. Exley of Wausau; Mrs. Amy Marsh of Marshfield; Fred May, son Stanley and daughters Mrs. Albert Anderson and Miss Ruth of Prentice; Mrs. Andrew Anderson and sons Norman and Ralph and daughter Mrs. Ted Summers of Taylor; Harold Trewartha of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Drake of Loyal.
