Packard, Jonas (17 May 1833 - 12 JUN 1915)

Jonas Fuller Packard was born in Parishville, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., May 17, 1833, and died at his home in the town of Holway, Wis., June 12, 1915, aged eighty-two years and twenty-six days. He was a sergeant in Co. D, 39th N.Y. Vol. Infantry, during the Civil war. May 30, 1876, he married Mrs. Julia Leslie Gwin of Parishville, N.Y. Four children were born to this union, Eleanor, Eagle, Daisy and Lafayette. Mr. Packard came to Dorchester, Clark County, Wis., in July 1876. May 30, 1878 he moved to his homestead in the town of Holway, where he lived until his death. Those left to mourn are his wife, three children, Mrs. J. R. Folmer, Auburn, Wash.; Earle and Daisy of Holway, two grandchildren, Royal and Norma Folmer, a niece, Mrs. MacPhail and two step-daughters, Marion Gwin and Mrs. F. J. Davis. The funeral was conducted from the home June 15, 1915, Rev. A. W. Cook, a friend and former pastor, officiating. The pallbearers were sons of veterans of the Civil War. As a token of respect neighbors and friends brought wreaths and flowers, the businessmen and Ladies Aid of Curtiss, Clark County sent white carnations and the W. R. C. and James Shields Post of Medford sent flags. Mr. Packard was a charger member of the Congregational Church of Medford, from which he took a letter to the Congregational Church at Curtiss of which he was an active member until his last illness. Mr. Packard was one of Taylor County's first settlers, and was deeply interested in its development and prosperity.
