Zuege, Charley W. (16 JUN 1889 - 23 OCT 1918)

Charley William Zuege, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zuege was born at Saxville, Wis., June 16, 1889. He came to Loyal with his parents in 1900 when he was eleven years old. Here he resided until he answered his call to the colors in Sept. 1917, serving his country six months. He received an honorable discharge at Camp Lewis, Wash., on account of illness. Later he secured employment at Kolze, Ill. He was taken ill of leakage of the heart Oct. 23rd and everything was done that willing hands could do but to no avail and he passed to the great beyond at 6:30 Oct. 23rd, at the age of 29 years, 4 mo. and 7 days. He was of a loving disposition and always willing to help others, never sparing himself. He grew to manhood in this vicinity, having the respect of everyone. He leaves to mourn his loss, his parents, five sisters, Mrs. Ross Hall of Stevens Point, Mrs. Helen Welsh, Fond du Lac, Annie, Margaret and Leona at home, five brothers, William of Long Island, Ernest in France, Herman of Loyal, and Frank and Bernie at home, all of whom were present at the funeral except two brothers, Ernest in France and William awaiting transportation.

The deceased was an honored member of the Masonic Lodge.

The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 27th at the M. E. Church, the funeral being private on account of the epidemic. Rev. E. E. Strevey officiating. Interment was in the Loyal cemetery.
