Saxton, Abegail (9 MAY 1833 - 30 Jul 1925)

Abegail La Celia Bradley, oldest daughter of E. W. and Susan Bradley, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Joseph Arquette, July 30, 1925, at 7:15 p.m.

In early childhood her parents moved to Illinois, after residing there for several years, they moved to Iowa and later to Wisconsin, where she has resided for over sixty years. She taught school for over eleven years in Wisconsin.

She was united in marriage to Attorney L. E. Saxton at Kilbourn City, Wis.

To this union was born three sons, John Emmett and La Verne. Mr. Saxton and their sons preceded Mrs. Saxton in death, she being left a widow some thirty-five years ago.

During the Civil War, Mr. Saxton was Provost Marshal and was stationed at La Crosse for some time.

His business called him to the White House several times, and Mrs. Saxton always accompanied him. Mrs. Saxton and two sons visited the White House during Wm. McKinley's administration, as Mr. Saxton and Mrs. McKinley were cousins.

After the death of her last son, La Verne at Marinette, she came to Loyal, Clark County, Wis. and made her home with her sister, Mrs. Joseph Arquette, where she has been the past eleven years.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Marinette, her old home.

The departed had been in good health, considering her advanced age, and had a remarkable memory, and when friends, called she was always bright and happy and enjoyed visiting so much, always having a pleasant word for all. She was truly a very interesting character.

About three months ago she began to gradually fail, and passed away very peacefully at 7:15 p.m., July 30, 1925.

She attained the age of 92 years, 2 months and 21 days.

Besides her aged sister, she leaves to mourn her loss, two grandsons, Earl and Lee Saxton of Chicago, other relatives and a host of friends.

The last rites for her were held at the home of her sister, Sunday p.m. at 1:00. Three beautiful hymns were rendered by the choir, "Rock of Ages", "Asleep in Jesus", and "Going Down the Valley, One by One," and with Rev. James comforting words, concluded the services at the home. She was laid to rest in the Lynn Cemetery.

The Tribune joins with friends in extending sympathy to the relatives, as it was only recently that Mr. Arquette passed away.
