Couture, Marvel (9 JUN 1890 - 6 Apr 1925)

(Spooner Advocate)

A feeling of deep regret was aroused among our people on Monday, April 6, 1925, when the news of the death of Mrs. Archie Couture reached this place, this esteemed and beloved lady passing to her eternal reward at her home in Duluth, Minn., on that date, death being caused by pneumonia. The remains were brought to this city Wednesday and were buried in the cemetery here that afternoon, the funeral being conducted by her friend, Mrs. H. L. Ganske.

Mrs. Archie Couture, nee Marvel Devlin, was born at Loyal, Clark County, Wis., on June 9, 1890, being therefore 34 years of age at the time of passing. She grew to young womanhood there, fitting herself for the teaching profession, after which she came to Spooner and taught the kindergarten department of our school four years.

Deceased was united in marriage to her surviving husband, a resident of our city at that time, on May 26, 1914. They continued to reside here for a number of years. During her life in this community deceased won many close and admiring friends, being popular among her associates, and her sad passing is mourned by all.

Funeral services were held at St. James Church in Duluth on Tuesday forenoon, prior to bringing the remains here for interment.

Surviving relatives are, the husband, two children, James aged 9, and Eileen aged 7, her mother Mrs. James Devlin, four sisters, Mrs. G. Jarvis of Wausau, Mrs. Joseph Imlay of Forest City, Iowa, Dora and Madeline of Loyal, and two brothers, James of Escanaba, Mich., and John of Lowell, this state.

Large numbers of relatives and friends from out of town, as well as many from this city, attended the last sad rites.
